Colorado’s Premier Real Estate Resource

New to the Denver Metro Area OR looking to move? (Read what others are saying about The Ingram Group)

Changing Aspen leaves, mild days with cooler nights, snow-dusted mountain peaks, Denver Broncos games, and pumpkin spice lattes… yep! Its definitely Fall again here in Colorado! After living in this gorgeous part of the country for almost 12 years now, I can say without reservation that I love our state and I love this season! As we turn our focus to raking the leaves, blowing out the sprinkler heads, checking the snow tires, and winterizing for the cold weather ahead, don’t forget to take a few moments to celebrate with some of the local Activities For Fall Season. Here are four of my family favorite activities!

Activities For Fall Season: #1 FLAT ACRES FARM’S PUMPKIN PATCH

If you are in southeast Denver, you should really make a point to stop out at Flat Acres Farm’s Pumpkin Patch this year! Located at 11321 Dransfeldt Road in Parker, Flat Acres Farm has a little bit of everything to offer fun for the entire family. A pumpkin patch, haunted maze, Zombie Paintball shoot, bounce houses, a petting zoo, and even their own honeybee farm! Plus, you certainly don’t want to miss the Giant Hay Bale Maze! Built with hundred of hay bales, the kids will have a blast trying to find their way through the weaving turns, disorienting intersections, and confusing dead ends.

Every year Flat Acres Farm brings out new games and activities. Last year our family had a riot with the Giant Hamster Ball! This year they are introducing the “Jump Pad” for kids AND adults to attempt their best midair freeze frame pose! On the weekends they also have food vendors on site to feed the hungry crew. Hurry! All the fun wraps up after October 31st. Call (303) 805-1038 for more info and pricing, or go online to www.flatacresfarm.com

Activities For Fall Season: #2 TRICK OR TREAT ON MAINSTREET

Once you have gotten your little trick-or-treaters dressed up and ready to roll, bring them out to Trick or Treat on Mainstreet, at O’Brien Park in Parker. The Cherry Creek Valley Rotary Club puts on this event each year and it is a huge hit! Running from 3:30p – 8:00p on Halloween, Oct 31st, this event is sure to be a success for parents and kids alike. Inflatables, Carnival games, vendor booths, full-sized costumed characters, and… CANDY! When you arrive, you will find the center of the activities at the O’Brien Park Gazebo. From there, you will be able to make your way down the picturesque Parker Mainstreet as shop owners and local businesses (including Baskin Robbins!) offer treats and candy for your little ones. This is a fun, safe, and FREE family-friendly event open to everyone! Head over to TrickOrTreatOnMainstreet.com for more details, and don’t forget to bring a Trick or Treat bag! Who knows, you might just run into “Optimus Surprise” as my three-year-old calls his costume for this year!

Activities For Fall Season: #3 PUMPKIN CARVING CONTEST

Maybe you would prefer to stay close to home, or you relish the idea of putting your artistic craftsmanship skills to the test – either way, don’t forget to incorporate some good ol’ fashioned pumpkin carving into your family activities this season! You can still pick up the perfect pumpkin for carving at the Farm Acres Pumpkin Patch, or your local Home Depot or King Soopers, and then… its time for the fun to begin! Lay out an old tablecloth, get a couple of sharp pairing or serrated knives, rinse down your gourd, and get to work! (Fun Fact: Did you know that pumpkins are not vegetables? Yea! They actually belong to the fruit family and are classified as a berry! Go figure!)

Now, everyone knows the traditional pumpkin carving face – toothless grin, triangle eyes, and an off-center hole for the nose. But this year, I want to challenge you to up your game! A few years ago, we decided to scrap this classic jack-o-lantern face for something different. It all started when our family decided to have a competition for who could come up with the most creative pumpkin carving. We started scouring the Internet for the most unique and creative characters to carve into a pumpkin. Let me tell you – we were not disappointed! Check out some of our best works of art!

Activities For Fall Season: #4 COMMUNITY OUTREACH OPPORTUNITIES

Lastly, perhaps you are looking for a place to give back this Halloween. Many area churches and schools plan family-based community events around the Halloween weekend as an opportunity for the entire family to get involved in something that is not only safe, fun and full of candy, but also a great experience in learning to focus on and serve others. If you are not familiar with the “Trunk or Treat” concept, it is a creative alternative to going door-to-door, usually hosted in a parking lot area. Volunteers decorate their open trunks with different themes, from mad scientist, to pirates, to spooky witch’s house. Families can then bring their kids from trunk to trunk to collect candy! Check with your local churches and schools in the neighborhood to see where a “trunk or treat” is happening near you.

No matter whether your plans call for haunted houses, pumpkin patches, hay bale mazes, carving pumpkins, or Trunk or Treating, here’s to wishing you a fun, safe, and memorable family celebration! Argh Matey!
